Smith Robotics LTD located in the Harwell Innovation Centre has been awarded an Innovate UK Grant for a new and upcoming #project! The husband-and-wife team Ryan Smith and Katie Smith are to trial an open Internet of Things (IoT) network on a science campus, near Harwell. The team are also going to integrate in a vineyard setting within Berkshire as well.
The aim of the project is to create a testbed IoT network that local companies, organisations and residents can create their own sensor and have easy access to the data remotely. With aims towards local environmental monitoring and sensing a top priority in #Oxfordshire, this project hopes to invite local school groups to take on #STEM (Science Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) projects using this platform.
Using the grant, Smith Robotics LTD are hoping to encourage other companies and #research organisations in the area to add their own network #infrastructure and sensors to improve the network as a whole. Also with the grant, Smith Robotics LTD was able to employ a summer internship, for 5 months, helping a student, currently in #University, gain experience and on the job knowledge as well.

During this project development, Smith Robotics LTD is collaborating with Illustrate Design Oxford, Duncan Crosse, a freelance industrial #designer, to help design the overall look of the IoT.
